Posted by Taufulou | Labels: , , , , , , , | Posted On Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 8:01 AM

Recently it was a makan makan period for all of us. Another latest addition added into my buffet is this Authentic Japanese Restaurant, Benkay which located inside Nikko Hotel. I have been told by many friends they serve good Japanese food, not until recently I had my mouth full of it.

With its unique name Benkay, only I know that the name is name after a historic Japanese warrior who was strong and courageous and loyal during the war period in Japan, therefore, with their name and the excellent quality of authentic food serving really a place not to be miss.

I sure do not mind to own a cupboard with a bottle of display like that, I sure wish I can have a sip of everything. Surely a great experience and would love to learn how to enjoy sakae in different style.

Diners can enjoy their modern Japanese concept dining area that overlooks a landscape garden with waterfall.

Niko (5)

The very first place I had my hands on was their teppanyaki room, it was huge and I look at the 'tempura', it was huge, fried crisply and dipping into the hot garlic soy sauce is just yummy. With the prawns are big and juicy, 3 of us just rob the whole stack of prawns there.

Niko (6)

In the hot pan fried next to Tempura, is the Teppanyaki area. You can customize what you want and the chef are ready to show you some skills.

Niko (7)

Niko (8)

I just love my 'Beef Teppanyaki' to be cook in medium with loads of garlic. It was cook well and the garlic slices are very crispy and aromatic.

Niko (9)

After I finish my mini section, my eyes placed on their ‘Sushi Bar’, loads of fresh sashimi and handroll ready to be hunt.

Niko (10)

'Salmon sahsimi'

Niko (11)

Niko (12)

Niko (13)

'Unagi Handroll'

Niko (14)

'Soft Shell Crab Handroll'

And the best thing is I went through at least 3 rounds for it. The sashimi were very fresh and dipping it with wasabi and Japanese soy sauce just makes my nose flame and burst into tears is what I like.

Niko (15)

As for today’s round of food hunting, I started it off pretty weird, after first few sections only I head to this cold appetizer section which is Scallop, Prawns, Oyster and a few more as it is located out side the restaurant.

I am usually not a big fan of oyster, as most of the places that serve that served it huge size which I find it very gross, but the size that was prepared in here was my choice and the oyster was very fresh that day, and I took nearly 1 dozen.

Niko (16)

Appetizer area.

Niko (17)

If you are a noodle lover, this would be a great section for you, as they had prepared a lot of gravy for you to top on.

Niko (18)

6 types of soup base to be ready for you to taste and the right side are prepared in a small portion of soba noodles.

Niko (20)

'Peking duck' skin will be cut into thin slices and what we need to do is we need to do it by ourselves, as in place a piece of the ‘popiah skin’ on your plate, spread the peking duck sauce on top of the skin, add on some of the veggie provided and place the peking duck skin, wrap it and ready to be eaten.

Niko (21)

After all that, I need some soup to make it digest, my very first choice as always is 'Miso Soup'. Love it alot as it was not very salty as some other restaurant, perfect in taste and most of us like it.

Niko (22)

Next is the 'Dobin Mushi'

Niko (23)

Squeeze the lime into in to bring the taste a bit sour and after mixing it, it taste is clear, yet with salty lime flavor.

Niko (24)

'Double Boiled Black Chicken with Black Beans'

If you feel that you had not enough from what you can see with your eyes with these sections, then you still can order what is in the menu, ala cart style, with at least another 72 variety for you to hunt.

Niko (25)

'Sauteed Beef with Ginger and Spring Onion'

Niko (27)

'Mini Sukiyaki'

Niko (30)

'Unagi with Egg Sauce in Pot' which the eel is very soft and cook in terriyaki sauce with onion, and the egg is just cook in the right temperature that create a very good taste.

Niko (31)

'Grilled Mackerel with Salt', 'Grilled Cod Fish in Teriyaki Sauce', 'Sauteed Scallop with Black Pepper and Onion'. We are enjoying our fish~

Niko (32)

'Roast Duck Hong Kong Style', 'Fried Rice with Garlic and Egg'

Niko (35)

A great meal like that would not be perfect if without desert which is a MUST to me. A great selection and my eyes had set onto this cake since the first step I walked into the restaurant.

Niko (36)

Niko (37)

this 'Cherry cheese cake' that I had set upon my eyes on. Soft, yet very rich in cheeze taste, add on with the cherry and kiwi sour taste, I am enjoying it.

Niko (38)

If you prefer something chinese then try their 'Double Boiled Sea Coconut with Dried Longan', 'Chilled Longan with Beancurd', 'Chilled Honey Dew Sago'

Niko (39)

A Japanese buffett will never be perfect if did not end with Green Tea Ice Cream, in this section you can choose, in one per scoop or 3 in 1. 'Vanilla, Black Sesame and Green Tea Ice Cream'.

Indeed it was a great authentic Japanese meal for the night, and most of us are very full with some of the guy looks like 3months pregnant, thanks to Sidney for arranging all this.

Pasta Zanmai @ Sunway Pyramid

Posted by Taufulou | Labels: , , , | Posted On Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 1:13 AM

I have heard a lot about this restaurant but never bother to go in, just do not know why. I thought it would be the same as Sushi Zanmai but I guess I was wrong (do not know whether it’s the same or not). Me and my friend was at Sunway and totally out of idea what to eat. Think of it, everything also about the same till my friend ask me what I want to eat and was up on the escalator then saw this place, which I have not dine before and good reviews from it.

As I have lost the receipt, and hopefully the name that I found is the same as the dish.

Pasta Zanmai

Pasta Zanmai (2)

Pasta Zanmai (3)

What caught my friend’s eyes was this tall fruit mock tail I would say, and looks good and known as 'Heart Mix Fruit Juice'. A bit light in taste but the flavor of the mix fruit is there. Definitely will goes well with my food(in my thought)RM 12

Pasta Zanmai (5)

Next which is this soup, I have been trying to order a lot of times at Sushi Zanmai but most of the time was finish or not available till not in the menu anymore. Then saw this, and it’s a must order for me. The strong miso soup taste is there that taste a bit sweet with the clamps that cook with it. Like it a lot~

Pasta Zanmai (6)

As my friend is a egg lover, what she said was, the egg is just as good as it looks and as soft as baby’s skin. The soy sauce is not salty yet mild which is perfect.
'Onsen Tamago' RM3

Pasta Zanmai (7)

All the things in the menu look so tempting, yet in the spaghetti section, white sauce is always my first section that I look into and also my favorite sauce. Then came across this dish 'Kinoko Tori no Cream Sauce' soft tender chicken that cook along with the mushroom with the creamy sauce is just something that I could not ask for more. Around RM19

Pasta Zanmai (4)

'Hotate to Kinoko no Mentaimayo Pizza' (Grilled Scallop & Mushroom with spicy Cod Fish Roe, Mayonnaise on the Pizza). Gosh, the pizza was serve it smells so good and my friend’s hand was on the way there till I have to stop her from taking it. Then I kena say, fast fast take pic ler..want to eat already. Crispy thin layer of base crust and on with the topping is simply delicious. RM26

As my stomach on that day got a bit problem that I could not even digest the food from the afternoon, and did not really finish the meal for the first time and my friend she say me, yerrrr.. long long time eat once with you also cannot eat finish..heee. Then after that went back lau sai. Stomach need some system clearance after a while which is good for me.

Enju New Menu @ Prince Hotel

Most of us we love Japanese food, like Sushi King, Sushi Zanmai, Sushi Tei till recently I receive and invites from Shirley to try out their latest ala cart menu in their Japanese restaurant in the hotel, Enju which being my latest adventure. When comes to Japanese food, hardly anyone could resist it.

If you need some privacy, or talking about business deals, VIP room is always a good option.

Not long after everyone arrive, then we were asked, you guys want any sake? I am surely up for this, who would want to miss that, enjoying a great meal of Japanese food and with sake definitely its a great combination.

Then we were first serve with hot sake, and this device caught my attention which actually the sake was actually heat up in this pot 'Charcoal Stove' and until at a warm level it was pour to a small bottle and only pour to the small sake cups. This is to preserve the smoothness of the sake and also the taste of it.

Ichinokura 'Junmai Taruzake' @ RM50
Moments after that, we were serve with 'Sawanoi' a Cold Sake. Loves the design of the pot and ask Sid whether can I steal it or not. Lol~

Till now, I am still learning how to enjoy my food with sake without knowing what is the difference of Hot and cold which is like Red Wine, White Wine. For me, I just love the taste of both the serving, smooth down the throat, not too strong yet I feel very warm after that.

'Sawano'
Then we start of with a appetizer that was serve instantly 'Akadashi Miso Shiru' that are prepared differently everyday.

'Tatami Iwashi' is undeniable good that is grilled baby sardine sheets , which is very crispy yet a bit salty and the next thing came into my mind was how nice if can take it with beer.

This is how thin slice it is. RM 8

I have always in hunt to look for nice 'Gyoza' and this is quite good with well pan friend on one side yet preserving the ingredient soft and juicy inside and dipping it with the soy sauce is good. RM15

Then we went off to the chef there to see him preparing the sashimi, impress by his cutting skills that just prepare the sashimi in a very short time.

'Sashimi Fuji' was well cut and prepare by the amazing chef...

'Chef Thomas' and his sashimi presentation. The fine texture, and freshness of the sashimi when was serve by the chef, it was gone moments later and some of them did not stand a chance to get a glimpse of it. Its like now you see, now you don’t.

'Enju Dynamite Roll' by its name, you will know that this will blast you off. It had blast me of for this very the first time, I see a roll with pure ingredients of fish roe, tempura, salmon and Japanese cucumber. What have you notice? A roll without a single rice. Just by dipping it with the wasabi, gosh…it would be one of the best roll I have eaten. RM22

If you are thinking 'Rock and Roll' will give you a roll, roll it up as it is one of their signature dish with a great combination of mango and fried tempura (deep-fried tiger prawn). RM24

Just love the presentation of 'Tekka Maki' with a small rice ball and top with tuna slice and with light sesame shake on top, eating it raw like that and having a sip with hot sake, is just something I do not know how to describe. RM24

'Gindara Saikyo Yaki' is one of my favourite dish of the night with its smooth texture of black cod, with its small meat insert to your mouth, it just melt into thin slices to your mouth. Just never had enough of it and wish I could have the whole piece. RM40

'Okonomiyaki', I would say its a Japanese Style pancake fried in with prawns, tako, and the bonito flakes topping, is just something you cannot stop eating while chatting and have to eat it while it is warm. When it is cold, it taste a bit weird to me. RM30

'Sanma Shioyaki' is one of the diet fish they called healthy dish that with a simple grill and squeeze with lemon is taste as good as it looks. RM10

'Shake Honey no Potato Salada Yaki'
Grill salmon with a bed of potato is something which I cannot resist. RM19

'Gyunku kushiyaki' @ RM15. Juicy and tender which is perfectly grill shower with japanese sauce had made me finish this by myself.

'Tori Katsudon' was drench with soy sauce soup base, which I was abit shock, that in my thought wouldn’t it be very salty yet it was not yet very flavorful. I hardly had any space for this but then still enjoying eating eat with the deep-fried chicken cook in soya sauce with shitake mushrooms, carrots, eggs. RM20

During our dinner, Sunny was mention on cold soba and requested to try out one. 'Santen Mori Soba' serve with a raw quill egg and watery soy sauce as I know need to pour onto the noodle and mix with it together then dip with the watery sauce. We tried out the first just eating it raw and then mix with the quill egg. Still do not know how to enjoy this dish. RM30

I thought our meal was finish and by stomach was bulging like 3 months pregnant till the serve 'Yaki Udon'. Very flavourful with the seafood aroma. RM24

'Ichigo Daifuku Mochi' had always been in Japanese menu, yet the home made style with strawberry buried inside with the chewy texture and not that sweet is something that I enjoy. RM16

Lastly, a occasion that we must celebrate which is Sidney’s Mom’s Birthday with Sunny (Bigboysoven) bringing his marvelous cake Pancake Marble Gateaux.

On that night, we laugh, we chat, we celebrate and every one was feed very very full, till for me, walk also a problem by using my hand to support my waist to walk. Shirley, have to thank you for your invitation. See you soon~
