Western Cuisine @ Ferringhi Garden,Pg

Posted by Taufulou | Labels: , , | Posted On Monday, March 2, 2009 at 1:50 PM

I get to know this place during my last trip back to Penang during Chinese New Year and came across that I peep from the outside entrance and caught my attention that I will try this restaurant during next trip. So here am I back to Penang again. As I got a review from my friend, as he celebrated his Valentine Day here, he gave a good feedback, good environment and food not bad.
I did not know they got awarded. Click to view..lol

I reached this place and full of mist and feel like in Penang hill, nope, was just accidentally caught by my camera effect and thought it is nice just post it up.

When I walked in here, I thought this was the area of having dinner but then see see the place so empty, aii...like wrong place like that, but turn out to be a Salsa bar, got to know it after I finish my dinner as there are a few couple having fun with their Salsa dancing which is pretty cool. Salsa lovers, here might be one of the place to hang out.

As you walked in, you will just fall in love with the environment that they have, very environment friendly and it is just so nice that you can sit there and eat and chat for the whole night.

This is one of the best place to walk with, it is full with flowers scent which is so refreshing with the mixture of water lilies, roses, sunflower and don know what other other.

It was raining that day so cant really enjoy sitting outside which make it a bit dissapointing so have to dine indoor. If not can enjoy the sound of the waterfall. For those people who enjoy cam whoring, totally highly recommend this place.

They did not use candle light as the romantic thing instead I find it interesting which is using the mini oil lamp to put on table. It was very classic though. Did thought of stealing it back..kekekke

Their interior was pretty classic classy, with wood table and chairs, a cosy environment to dine in especially with the one you love or your close friend to celebrate any occasions.

As usual, I will start my meal with a soup as this is the 'Mushroom Soup'. It was quite a big serving so for a couple would encourage to be shared. This soup you can really taste wild mushroom, which is so not nice we only manage to finish half cause it had one weird taste. Do not know how to describe.

This is complementary from the house as what I have been told but seems like it comes with the soup if not mistaken. I would called it 'Cheeze bread' cuz no garlic in there. Very nice cheezy baked taste. Freshly from the oven.

Here comes our main course, as we decided to share, do not know what to eat as during some where already eat some apong, mua chi before coming up. Ordered this because have 3 selection in there, it is called 'Ferringhi Mixed Grilled'. Tried the salmon, and it was bad, not fresh, overcooked, fish smell very strong, again I ask the waitress to come and ask them get a new piece for me as told them not fresh, well, manage to get me a new piece of salmon after waiting of 30 minutes, sure do the second piece is much better, the fish meat is much softer even though it is over cooked again, the salmon gravy on top just goes along very well.

Second is the lamb, well, we do prefer the lamb has the very strong smell of the lamb whereby alot people do not prefer, as it will go along very well with the mint sauce. So the lamb was well marinated to cover up the lamb smell, so we were quite disappointed on it. For people who do not like lamb with the strong taste, so I would highly recommend to order here.

Third piece is the chicken, the first thing when I use my fork to poke it in, Shit..overcook again. What is wrong with the chef in here la..every thing that I have is like overcook or is it their style of cooking. What the hell. No quality. The chicken was spread with some garlic spread on top. It would be very nice if the chicken is cooked 80% from the condition that I got then will be perfectly nice.
The potato with sour cream doesnt not taste good, the whole dish for this we were totally disappointed, lagi lagi with the price tag slap on this dish RM72.80. We feel that it is over price which make the quality of the food and the pieces that served out comes to be DAMM EXPENSIVE!!!!!
I always end my meal with a desert if not, I will feel like my meal is not complete. Ordered this 'Home Made Creme Brulee'. A big plate serve with small little potato portion. Do not mind on it but the best thing was the taste of the brulee is cold. Shock us abit. As all the time we dine it is warm with the top crust is fire burn to make the crust crispy, so it taste more like a pudding. Did not finish the desert also even thought it was so bloody small cup with the price of RM17.80. Maybe it was their style to make it cold.

It is because of the great environment they have I would give them 9/10 for that, but I cannot deny that I have bad experience in the dining for this restaurant, maybe I did order the wrong dish, will come back again to try some other food during special occasion and the best thing as they do offer other ala cart as low as RM11 such as Fried Rice and so on. So please do not think that this place is gonna be expensive. They offer from local food to western or even can order a few fried dish and rice and eat along. The total bill that came out was RM 124.

As for last, I must thank that waitress for serving us so well, as she had been very helpful. Thank you even though I do not know your name.

After they meal, we head to second round which is Sunset Bistro just in front of the restaurant.

Tim Sum @ Tai Tong Restaurant ,Pg

Posted by Taufulou | Labels: , , | Posted On at 1:45 PM

One of the famous Tim Sum shop for breakfast in Penang. It has also been quite some time I did not visit this shop. Last visited was bout 5 years ago. As I have to bring my friend for breakfast, and decided to come back this shop as always mention by my dad how good it was as this shop is famous to all the nearby neighbourhood for quite long time already.

The shop is as usual packed with people from morning to night. As they have to different sessions. Morning will be the Tim Sum and Night will be the fried dish.

The troly being pulled infront of me, so get to choose what I want.

Ordered the 'Hong Kong Chee Cheong Fan' whereby a must have dish for Tim Sum, it was so so only as the skin is too thick already. We only finish the prawns.

The 'Wu Tau' as one of my favourite. But today I think the yam, do not have the yam taste, feels abit weird but the 'char siew pork' in there taste nice. Not too salty yet perfectly juicy. Just the yam. Aiii...

'Fried Fu Chuk' is one of the favourite, it is nicely fried as the crust of the skin is very crispy and the filling in it is very soft like home made fish ball. The mayonnaise we believe is home made too, as it taste sweet and goes along very well with the fu chuk.

'Loh Mai Kai' a common food for tim sum. Looks nice and oily, the chicken and the mushroom in it do not have much taste but the taste still lack of one taste, the original loh mai kai taste. Still feel that the 1 that I had in Genting is very nice and highly recommended tim.

This is one of their signature dish. Do not know what it is called but in the whole pau trolly this is the only odd colour looking, the auntie was selling hard on this. Decided to try it since she said its one of the best selling and the last piece.
I must agree with the auntie that this sure taste nice. The top is very soft like eating cake, and the filling inside is just nice, blend well with the top. Highly Recommended.
'Char Siew Pau' my favourite during tim sum. Very nice. The texture of the pau is nice and soft, the char siew inside is nicely fried along with the sauce.

I forgot what is this called already, by having me 1 person finishing the whole thing, taste quite good along with the cilisauce there, i think they have mixed it, chili sauce with the 'tim cheong'.

I personally do not like this but my friend she is having great time eating this. This depends on individual taste already.

'Pai Kuat'. So far still have not manage to find a nice 1 to eat during tim sum. Would not really recommend this as the meat is nicely steam but the sauce do not have a strong black bean sauce, the chili taste lack of it, and lack of salt.

Round up the whole session with a desert. As always my meal will usually end with desert. The 'Longan Tau Fu Fa'. The pieces is very soft like taufu, the juice in there is not too sweet, and top up with longan. Just nice to complete the whole meal.

When I was paying the bill, I was quite shock again, as we ate so much and the total was only RM25. Aii, cheap loh~ With the food quality and the pricing so have not much comment on it. All the auntie there is very nice and warm.

They can just talk and talk to you and the auntie commented on my friend, 'Wah, where r u guys from?Japan ah? then I laughed. Korea ah? you guys don look like local lei(in hokkein) you guys so fair. Then told the auntie, no la. We all 'Pun Teh Lang' (local ppl in hokkien)

Char Koey Teow @ Jalan Raja Gopal,Pg

Posted by Taufulou | Labels: , , | Posted On at 1:32 PM

It has been ages since last I came here, it was during my college here and used to hang out here for tea time as I was studying at Disted College during year 2001. Calculations come out around 8 years since last I visit this place. It was the ah pek Char koey Teow still the same person. Luckily was not closed. This place is what we called 'Chiu Chang Ka', direct translation Under the Tree located at Pulau Tikus area.

This is the stall that stay at the same place for the past donkey years. One good thing about this stall is he uses charcoal to fried it is always better to those than using gas, fried by one plate at the time. The special about this uncle stall is he uses Duck egg, upon request. Must try it. Taste much better.

Tadaa, this is the uncle 'Char Koey Teow with duck egg'. Have the wok taste, nicely fried and not too dry yet the si ham is alot, with chinese sausage and only RM3.50.

After leaving Penang for not too long, and I ordered Teh O Ice, and guess how much is it, Only RM0.90. Wow, didnt know still exist with this kind of pricing and the funny thing is when the lady come and told me its RM0.90, then I like 'Hah, 90cents ah'. she like yeah la, you come out from hutan or too long never come out eat already iziit. Lol..It has been long long time since pay for a drink less than RM1.

This place also famous for Economy bee hoon with fried popiah on top, unfortunately it was closed that day, or I do not know still exist or not.

Buffett Dinner @ Westin Hotel, KL

Posted by Taufulou | Labels: , , | Posted On at 1:21 PM

It was the weekend that most of us are anticipating for, a gathering after Chinese New Year for all of us to get to know the rest of the people in the organisation. Booked the entire place just for us only. First time dine in Westine Hotel Buffett style.

The restaurant had a nice interior whereby you get to choose in the center area which is a bit more relaxing, with sofa's around the area, and a high ceiling till you can see what is on the 3rd floor hallway. We ended up picking on the back area, brighter and a place looks like you can just sit and chat there whole night.

This is one of the fish that had been served, do not know what fish but it is very fresh as the meat is very soft.

This is one of the salad bar. Women's favourite.

Salad Bar 2.

This is one of the Shasimi bar.

This is the Lok Lok bar.

The sandwich bar. Something like Subway, you can just choose the kind of bread you want, toasted or not to be toasted and the toppings and fillings that you want. As my all time favourite, the croissant.

One of my favourite area for the whole night, the desert bar. Variety of cakes, pudding, jelly's and chocolates. Can't really recall back which is nice and not nice, as I tried every bits of it and shared with the rest.

The Ice Cream Bar. Looks tempting but the Ice Cream does not taste good. Nice to see, not nice to eat.

The topping area for your ice cream. With Blue berry and strawberry syrup, peanuts flakes and cherry.

It has been ages since I last saw 'Tabung Uji' uniquely they filled it with dark and white chocolates.

A wall of chocolates for you to hunt, the chocolate is just so nice, yet some are juicy as it was filled with some sauce, you bite, it melt and spurt in your mouth. The best chocolate corner.

A chocolate fondue tower, as I called it Desert Lok Lok style. I was just standing there pok the fruits, marshmallow, and short bread, dip and bite. So satisfying until my friend came, WOI!!! you geli la... you dip like that other ppl no need to eat liau la~ lol. I dip only once, and the whole thing is in my mouth, I always use new stick. Hygiene ma~

Wohooo~ the best corner of all, free flow of beer all night long.

This is what I took for myself,
The left is the pumpkin and tomyam gong soup. The pumpkin tasted so so only as it was quite thick in the taste. The tomyam gong is disappointing, taste more like clear soup.

My personal Lok Lok corner. Every stick of what is inside that area except beef.

This is the main course food. The food is so so only.

The best of all, as I always take sandwich with my own personal custom made filled with turkey ham, tuna, egg, cabbage, tomato, cucumber, mayo and mustard sauce.

The little Asian delight that they have, Kaya Kuih(damm nice), chocolate popiah, apple struddle and cupcake(not nice)

wahhahha..This is my personal customise pancake. 1 sided filled with chocolate and the other side with Blueberry sauce and the other side with strawberry sauce. Very very nice.

This is what I mean by my lok lok style, standing there and dip.Wakkakaka. as what we did on the road side except cannot stand with kaki kang kang and head front like giraffe which we scared that the sauce will drop on our clothing.

Well, it was a very interesting night, as get to know more people within the organisation.

Bon-Ga, Korean Food @ Mont Kiara

Posted by Taufulou | Labels: , , | Posted On at 1:15 PM

Ah Pak was down for the weekend, and do not know what to eat, head to Taipan for Korean food, then see the menu so little things we decided to cabut, then I suggested Mt Kiara to eat. I thought in LDP turn is Mt. Kiara d, how smart am I. While I was driving I keep thinking where got so near la, then only realise it.SHITT!!! so darn far, clever loh me~ After 40 mins of driving in the very heavy rain whereby have to put emergency signal on, at last reach here still do not know which 1 is nice, just hantam this shop.

After I walked into this shop I like har, like dat 1 ah, sei!!! No choice la, since come till so far already, so just try lah~

This is the funny thing that I found out in the menu, where all of the food are fully imported and looking into the menu, still the same, not much choice. Most of the dishes are beef and I can't take beef, so left only 2 options. So sapu that 2 and orders some other dish. Funny thing in this restaurant is they dont serve us Korean tea, ONLY water. hmmmm.........

This is their food entree, where the 1 in the red red sauce looks like the Japanese octopus(which is not) but taste very good. The rest, not nice.

Ordered this 'Korean Pancake', when it was served, I was like har.. so geli 1 ah, the food. No QC eh. Then when tried on the pancake, aiiii...really true, no QC. Can still taste the flour which is not fully cook, and in the middle part of it which is quite thick and can still taste some of the raw sotong taste. I eat half of the piece and banneeed.

This is the 'Kim Chi steamboat'. Looks good when were on our table but the taste is like no Kimchi taste and a bit spicy only. Not as good as it looks on the colour. None of us finish the whole thing also.

This is the 'Pork Belly'.

The person that was helping us out, overcooked the pork belly, so ended up we have to chew it as long as like chewing gum. Ended up the pork also quite dry.

This is the 'Pork Meat'. The nicest among all the dish that we ordered. They don know marinate with what sauce but do taste good on the pork that grill on it or which I think that the person that help us cook had improve, which he did not over cooked it.

This is the person that had helped us cook it out. Satisfying but the onion cannot go. Tasteless, I think from Korea as mention from the menu.

Overall, I wont revisit this restaurant again, as the food is below average. The bill I had lost it but I still remember the total bill comes to RM125
