Posted by Taufulou | Labels: , , , , | Posted On Monday, April 5, 2010 at 11:20 PM

Mid Valley or The Gardens shopping mall is one of the places that most people hang around and shop, but when it comes to food, this mall also do offer a huge range of food and there are a few famous one too, one of it would be Ko Hyang, that it had a few months I had read in blog about this place, many bloggers mention about how good the food here.

It was not until recently I drop by and decided to give it a try.

Kho HYang

It was the usual, that its always packed with people to wait on this small little stall, that is owned by Koreans.

Kho HYang (2)

One of the drinks that I enjoy when comes to Korean food which is 'Sik Hye' that I called it barley in korean style, some people might not like it but I do enjoy this drink alot of its taste wise. RM 3.80

Kho HYang (4)

Usually you eat in big restaurant or small restaurant you will be given appetizer first, just that restaurant have huge range of it and can refill.

Kho HYang (5)

One of the thing that I seldom miss is to keep trying out on 'Pancake' RM9.80. It was completely cook with the edge are crispy but it still had strong taste of flour in it, by dipping the with the sauce a bit only can eliminate the taste of it. I would say, I had better ones before.

Kho HYang (6)

Kho HYang (7)

One of the normal dish to choose that not to go wrong is their 'Ji Gye' RM14.90. Spicy in taste that the expecatation is there and its always cook with taufu.

Kho HYang (9)

'Bul go Gi' is one of my favorite in Korean range, although the beef texture been cook very well, just that if the taste wise been improve or they do have spicy range, it would taste even better.

Kho HYang (10)

This set is price at RM16.90

For me, I think my taste is different from others or the food that day it tasted so so only with different chef or people preparing it.

Crystal Jade Restaurant @ The Gardens

Posted by Taufulou | Labels: , , , | Posted On Monday, December 21, 2009 at 1:56 AM

Crystal Jade is no stranger to most of the locals with its operating restaurant of more than 18 years of history and has over 80 outlets in 12 major cities in Asia Pacific Region, with its based and originate from Singapore.

This restaurant not only served Cantonese Cuisine but Shanghai Delicacies has been the second most popular. As their star item in the restaurant that must not be forgotten is their Steamed soupy pork dumpling 'Xiao Long Bao' and hand pulled noodle 'La Mian'.

I was given the opportunity to see the making 2 of their star item that I have to thanks to I May from Arcis Communications for the invites.

Crystal Jade

Crystal Jade (2)

Steamed Soupy Pork Dumpling that commonly known as 'Xiau Long Bao' is a dish from China Northern Song Dynasty. As it is small & delicate and steamed in a bamboo basket, hence the name 'Xiao Long Bao' comes about.

The preparation process are:
1) Whisking 4 grams of high protein flour with 2 grams of cold water.
2) Knead dough weighing around 6 grams for 30 seconds.
3) Roll out the dough
4) Put ingredients consisting 22 grams of 70% lean pork meat and 30% fat port meat from pork;s neck or belly area with little seasoning.
5) Make 18-20 folds, each xiao long bau should weight around 28 grams.
6) Bring the water to boil and steam xiao long bao using a basket steamer for approximately 6 minutes.

Crystal Jade (3)

That is how the little xiau long bao is made off.
Next would be the making of La Mian. La Mian literally means 'hand-pulled noodle' and relates to the process of pulling a serving of noodle from top quality bread flour dough. Our chef pulls the dough to about a meter in lenght and folds it into half; doubling the number of noodle strands.

Crystal Jade (4)

Top quality bread flour with 10:4:5 portion of water is used to prepare the dough in approximately 20 minutes. For normal type of one bowl serving of noodles, it is pulled 7 times and approximately 10 seconds to cook.

Crystal Jade (5)

The noodle can be made into 3 types. Fine, medium and thick noodle.

Crystal Jade (6)

Crystal Jade (7)

This is after the made of 'Steamed Pork Dumpling' which had been steam and ready to eat. The soup base is sweet and aromatic which is soft in the outer skin and the base of the meat is just perfect. RM8.80

Crystal Jade (8)

Next the after effect of la mian after been cook 'Stewed La Mian with Spicy Shredded Chicken'. Our first bite of it was quite surprise as it is served cold but the taste did not disappoint and it was good. The look of spiciness which is actually not and the chicken is soft and mix with the gravy and noodle is just perfect. RM13

Crystal Jade (9)

'Black Fungus with Shredded celery in Sesame Oil' is something light to accompany you. RM9.80

Crystal Jade (10)

'Pork Dumpling with Chilli Sauce' doesn't look spicy but taste not bad. RM10

Crystal Jade (11)

'Pan-fried Pork Dumpling' dip with the sauce given is not bad. RM7.00

Crystal Jade (12)

Me with the food.

Crystal Jade (13)

If you are not looking for something heavy 'Soup La Mian with Dried Shrimp & Peanut in Spicy Sauce' is something you will be looking for. RM12.00

Crystal Jade (14)

'Fried Pan-cake with Scallion & Pork Floss' something not too salty but if a glass of beer was served and while watching soccer, this is definitely a highly recommended item. Its nice and chewy. RM10

Crystal Jade (15)

'Chilled Water Chestnut Cream with Pomelo' is something I like after meal. Clear, not too sweet yet chilled and nice. RM7.00

It was a great experience overall.

Oyster King @ The Gardens

Oyster King had been one of the latest additions to the miniature stall in The Gardens. Without getting invites from Coco (thank you), I did not even realize that there is a stall around there. Despite of the name, you can guess that something that they cook would involve oyster. Being a fan of small small oyster surely I am up for this. I just cannot take big juicy oyster like what have been offering at Japanese or Seafood buffet.

I was there early and it was the usual few that we always had the outing together and Coco is arranging with the owner for us to occupied the place. As the time pass, more and more people showed up and this is my very first review that we had so many blogger at one shot, so stim, till to the extend we occupied 90% of the place. Then we were like alamak, how she going to do business la~

This place not only offer ala cart, but they do offer in set meals.

I just love the clip so cute and hoping and silently thinking to plot steal it back.

It didn’t took long for the owner to prepare all the food.

If you are a big fan of ‘Fried Oyster’ as known as ‘Oo Chien’ (Hokkien) back in my hometown Pg, then you MUST NOT miss this. I have not eaten fried oyster for ages yet still hunting for it. Well fried till some sides of the egg are crispy, a lil spicy and sour that makes the taste blend in well topping up with fresh oyster in the end is something we keep eating. I ate 3 plates of this charge at RM6 per plate. Recommended~

‘Fried Carrot Cake’ that had always been one of my favorite too when I was young, remembered when I was young watch the street movie theater and eat this and rojak. Still wonders does it still happen now. I prefer the carrot cake to chopped into smaller pieces and add on more garlic but this is as good as it taste. Fried with wok hei, and the pieces are cook evenly. RM5

'Teow Chew Fried Noodle' RM6

'Wun Chai Ko'

'Pumpkin Cake' RM5

'Dried Oyster Glutinous Rice' RM6

A friendly host like Ms.Joan is hard to find. Thanks for hosting us~

Towards end of the meal, Sidney plan to give Wilson another surprise so he went to buy a cake and Racheal being the person that have to hold and walk with the cake.

In food court, the food vendor had become smarter on doing promotional activities.. I was hunting around which stall to eat on that day and I was unable to decide. Previously I had tried on the Korean food there. It was not bad. Then wanted to tried something else and saw this promotional on this stall with statistics and a lot of people were purchasing it also. I guess a lot of people purchase by the promotional activities had on the stall write: eg: Month of July sold 300 plates, Aug sold 500 plates, Sept sold 400plates. Thought it was so good and the food pictures is as below:

'Pinapple Fried Rice Set' cost around RM10 if not mistaken.

With the promotional thing they have on their stall, I guess it’s a successful campaign I would say but it will be only for one time purchase. This is the worst ever pineapple fried rice I ever tasted. Its was very strong in the powdery taste, very salty and this is the first time that I had 2-3 spoon of the rice and decided not to eat it anymore. Instead went to bread top to grab a bread to eat. My friends got very surprise and ask me what happen. Then I ask them to try then you will know. They had one small bite or taste on it. They were like..apa ini? I told them pineapple fried rice la.. they said human eat 1 meh? . . . . . . .

Totally BANNED by me this Thai Stall. . . No more next time.

Told my friend that the Korean food there is not bad and they hunt for ‘BBQ Chicken’. It was expected with the taste of the mild spiciness with the soft chicken grilled on top of it that with a bowl of rice is a great combination. With around RM18.90 comes also with desert. The prices quite okay la.

The ‘Mango Ice Kacang’ is not in my list of preference. Found it that its too sweet as its colouring sweet. The ice is quite big in pieces not in very snowy.

Fong Lye Taiwan Restaurant @ The Gardens

Posted by Taufulou | Labels: , , , | Posted On Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 11:49 PM

I used to be very curious when every time I walk pass this restaurant for couple of times before trying it last year. There were always huge crowds waiting outside this restaurant. I have revisited this restaurant numerous times as most of my friends like this. Then bring my parents to try out the variety here.

While we were seated outside and waiting patiently, this time I am quite surprise that, they actually have some one served Lime Juice to the entire waiting customer. So each of us grab one and my dad instantly fell in love with that drink (which is one of my favorite)

My dad were pretty impress by the design of the restaurant and keep kutuk this restaurant saying that ‘why this restaurant have so many customer ha?’ So nice meh? So good meh?’ then told him that, after you try then let me know.

This place as always packed with ppl no matter what time and day.

The food menu offered had wide range to choose from. It ranges from snack, to main course, sets and to deserts (which is pretty impressive).

My mom try out the 'Apple Yogurt' which is a bit thick in taste but rich with apple flavor. A smart way to bring out the fragrance of it. RM7.30

My sister ordered 'Papaya Milk' which I find it quite geli at first. Blend then some more add milk…Yucks! But after were force by my sis to try it out, the taste is quite impressive, while you drinks it, you are able to suck out the mini cubes of papaya and the taste of milk is to make it sweet. Quite a nice drink that I would recommend. RM7.30

'Sweet Potato Ball' this has always been a hit with most of the customer that I would say its their signature item. This has to be eaten hot. Real hot, this can just burn your tongue. For the first time I ate this, I throw the whole ball into my mouth and my tongue got burn after that. A sign of greedy’ness without realizing the consequence. This is good as the outer layer is a bit crispy and the filling inside is soft. RM5.30

'Baked Sausage' is something that I always enjoy to eat as Taiwan snacks but for this sausage, there is nothing special to comment about as I find it quite plan which I prefer those in pasar malam. RM6.30

'Beef Soup Dumpling' is far one of the most geli food I dine in here. The skin is thick on the outer layer and the filling inside is a bit cold (not warm even), the soup base is just salty. Only manage to finish 2 biji. Totally banned this item from my list! RM9.80

'Taiwan Pig Intestine Mee Sua' is my high time favorite dish in here. The soup is thick and filled with the mini layer of intestine that had been cook to its softness, a bit chewy and not smelly. Goes along very well with the taste. RM9.80

This is 'Fried Rice with Rice Wine'. It looks baldly plain, but certainly it has the ‘wok hei’ in the rice and was fried to perfection with the fragrance of rice wine detected. When it got served, it was finish within minutes. RM12.80

Another signature of the restaurant which is 'Fresh Tomato Fried Egg with Fish' My mom ordered this as she always like to eat something with fish. The sauce of it, goes very well with the rice as tangy, sour and sweet. The egg was fried to its softness that my sis and dad keep attacking the egg. The fish was very soft showing the sign of fresh fish they are using. Always been a hit to the crowd. Highly Recommended! RM19.80

Then my dad took the 'Spare Rips with Sweet & Sour Sauce' Spare rips was fried to its crispy and again fried along with the sauce. The fragrance of the sweet and sour sauce just melted in the ribs and while eating it, the fragrance just travels along in your mouth. The ribs is good. RM19.80

Most of the meal serve with its mini side dish. There will be a slight different ranges from different sets.
'BBQ Drumstick' For this dish, is noting special that we thought off. Just a normal bbq chicken, noting special on the sauce but surely it was grilled to its perfection. RM19.80

One of my bro, sis and my favourite. It is something like gorden blue in the western food menu but amend it to the Taiwan version which turns out to be 'Cheesy Pork Chop Rice' Fried rice was well fried filled with wok hei, not too salty in the inside and the fragrance of egg that wraps on it add on the taste. My sister were very excited when saw my bro cutting on the pork cullet with the cheese melting out and she starts attacking on that part. The pork was fried to golden brown and the meat is soft that combines very well with the cheese. Highly Recommended! RM19.80

My sister order 'Miso Fish Set' as she is like my mom, loves fish a lot. There are 2 pieces of cod fish, The sauce they are using to paint on top of it is taste perfect and the cod fish was grill just nice. When cut it out its soft on the inside and we found out that one piece is fresh the other piece is so so. My sister enjoys it a lot~ RM29.80

At the end of the day, the last meal was served 'Taiwan Minced Meat Sos Noodle' which we find it nothing special. The mince meat is something normal which you can taste it anywhere outside and although the noodle is very soft and nice but just could not find the kick in it. RM17.80

At the end of the meal, every 1 is just so full. Satisfied with the food and quality they have.
